Field & Block-Scale Experiments

This work package focuses on the effectiveness of bacteriogenic barrier development at block and field scales. We are initially conducting experiments on metre scale rock blocks in order to understand the key processes involved in fracture sealing using bacterially mediated calcite precipitation at this scale. These concepts will then be applied to larger field scale experiments using an array of boreholes designed to test the feasibility of potential methodologies for sealing narrow aperture fractured rocks for applications in nuclear decommissioning and disposal.
