Molecular Characterisation

The main objective of this work package is to determine the fundamental molecular-scale properties of biomineralisation products. A combination of powerful analytical techniques will allow detailed characterisation of the biogeochemical environment, the biominerals formed, the radionuclide speciation in the solid phase and the interactions between microbes, radionuclides and biomineral and mineral phases. Such information is essential for assessing the stability of the radionuclide solid phase and the potential of the investigated biomineralisation processes for radionuclide solid state capture and use in in situ remediation.
